Thanks to the financing I got from CAE Memphrémagog, I was finally able to open the store during the pandemic. The advisors were amazing. They were available to answer my questions and were very supportive.

Pascal Pouliot, founder of L’Armoire à jeux games store that opened its doors in July 2021 on Principale Street in Magog, previously worked as a comedian and director before becoming a business manager in Montréal. A regular visitor of Magog, he noticed that there was a gap in the retail offer of games and toys and decided to fill it using his past experience working in a games store. After a market study confirmed his first impression, moving back to his hometown to start his own business was a natural decision. Pascal is always on the lookout to add original new products to the varied selection of games, craft materials and toys for all ages on offer in his store, while being attentive to avoid competing with other retailers in Magog.

Pascal faced a major challenge when he was looking for financing, since the financial institutions’ eligibility criteria became stricter during the pandemic. He called on friends and his network of contacts before someone recommended he reach out to the MRC and CAE Memphremagog to complete the startup funding package.

He was delighted with the enthusiasm and support for his business plan offered by the advisors. “They also made solid recommendations and provided answers to all my questions.” “When they came over to visit the store, I was already so busy that I wasn’t able to give them an official tour, which bode well for the future.”
